Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail

Who knows why I have become so interested in the written word lately.  Well you can say the same for spoken word too I guess.  I am so elated that I have finished 2 books within the past couple weeks.  I figured I would write a small synopsis and rate each book as I go along this year with a goal to read 20 books.  I am now a small percentage away from my goal, but I have so many books that I have been wanting to read that it just makes sense to give myself a goal so that I may work towards it.

The first book of the year that I read is Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail.  I liked this book for the most part.  I listened to it as an audio book, to and from work and while I was making an elaborate baby shower present for one of my closest friends.  I do have a very strong moral compass and I do have a hard time when people in books decide to do things that they shouldn't.  All be it, this book still had very many redeeming qualities about it, where she ended up "finding" herself on this trail, and making a brilliant life for herself.

This is my favorite quote from this book.  This woman was very unprepared as she made her journey through the Pacific Crest Trail.  She looked for escapes in everything that she encountered (not something I like to think is very admirable).  She is but a woman who did not grow up like myself and who am I to judge, but I walk away from this book with something more.  If a woman who has never backpacked in her life can make a journey like this and write a book about it, and ultimately be able to collect money from said book, why can't I do something remotely similar.  I would like to hike and backpack and make a mark on this world.  Not that I would be able to tell all the people who are near and dear to me goodbye for an entire summer, but a weekend trip here and there would be an amazing experience, one that I can't wait to make happen and maybe find a little of myself on that trail as I self reflect and get to know nature a little more.  

This book is to be a movie by the end of year, not certain on the date.  I would like to give it a shot in the movie theaters as well.  I have a feeling there will be very many look-backs into Strayed's life while she is hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.  Hopefully in movie format I will have a little more compassion for this story line.  

This next book I have checked out from the library is Longbourn and American Heiress.  Lets see which ones get done first!  I can't wait, I love books with an "upstairs/downstairs" feel.  Until next time.
